News for February 2014

It has been a while since last main announcement, so we decided to publish one today, when WooThemes team reached a major milestone: WooCommerce 2.1 has finally been released. The new version, nicknamed “Peppy Penguin”, is now available for download on WooThemes site, or from WordPress control panel and introduces  several significant changes.

What does that mean for our customers?

As indicated on our product pages, our plugins have been tested until WooCommerce 2.0.20. Version 2.1 is a major update, with some significant changes in the architecture behind WooCommerce. Based on our preliminary analysis, some of these changes may break compatibility with some of our plugins. We are working to find issues that this update might have introduced, and fix them straight away. Below you can find a summary of our action plan, in relation to the release of WooCommerce 2.1.

Status of Currency Switcher

Our acclaimed Currency Switcher is the first one undergoing review to spot possible incompatibilities with WooCommerce 2.1 and address them. Version 3.x of our plugin will include full compatibility and support for WooCommerce 2.1. We plan to release such version as soon as possible, ideally by the 17/02/2014. While we work on addressing the issues that will eventually arise during testing, we will make Currency Switcher 3.x available, free of charge, to all our customers, with regular updates.

Status of Authipay plugin

The Authipay payment gateway plugin will be next in line for compatibility improvement. Since its logic is simpler that the one of the Currency Switcher, we don’t expect to find many issues.

WooCommerce 1.6.x will no longer be supported

WooCommerce 2.0.x and 2.1 are now the de facto production versions of WooCommerce, making version 1.6.x obsolete. Therefore, we will be dropping compatibility with such version from 15/03/2014. Of course, any open support request related to WooCommerce 1.6.x will be handled until it’s resolved.
